”Settledness”
After a short break , we keep going on with a new context. In my opinion, the concept of settledness is one of the weakest points of the system which is currently running our society.
Neither personal nor institutional, a settled structure provides a feature of tracking for a higher authority and guarantees a responsible person in case of an interrogation. All the registration codes you believe that you own are in fact just owning you, from credit card number to your citizenship number. This process is offering faster and more reliable services from the government with the help of your legal existence, which doesn’t seem to be accomplished in turkey.
When you think, it is all empty commitments.
What is your benefit except putting the lead on my neck?
I want to mention something about a book that i read in the beginning of this year as a suggestion of my friend umut, i thought it is relevant to this topic. American writer Hakim Bey’s mind opener book T.A.Z (Temporary Autonomous Zone) offers alternative solutions to the topic settledness. In his book he’s providing alternative solutions to the neccesity of being settled. If you’re interested here’s the direct link to T.A.Z. and here’s Hakim Bey’s the other works.

”Culture”
The concept for the 24Th issue is a very controversial one that has been transformed a lot meaning-wise throughout the last few centuries. Culture.
I want to share with you the official meaning of culture that I have obtained from couple of ”reliable” or ”non-reliable” sources.
Culture: The set of attitudes, thoughts, language and art that constitute a society’s shared way of being, feeling and thinking, extensive and systematic knowledge that has been acquired on a certain subject.
Culture: The whole of the values that have been created through historical and social evolution, and the instruments that enable humanity to pass on this knowledge to the forthcoming generations.
Culture: Advanced knowledge of reasoning, criticism and taste acquired by experience and experimentation.
These definitions which are accurate as much as they are uninspiring describe a meaning of culture that have been idealized but does not really exist.
Culture is the whole of the creations that have been published, announced and for these reasons adopted by the masses and become a part of their customs.
Behind this definition of culture there is a large amount of human experience that have been lived by individuals and smaller populations which have not become a part of the dominant cultural values.
Jean Dubuffet suggests that the meaning of highly relative words such as ”true”, ”good”, ”beautiful” which have been somehow agreed upon in the shared consciousness of the society are regulated by the ”cultural police”. These are responsible with suppressing the notions, understandings and creations that can free crowds from the dominant ways of perception.
On the contrary to popular belief, now culture is not something which is created by the society itself, but something that creates and shapes the society.
The deadline for your submissions is 20th of July.

Context
The first issue of 2009 will be ‘Darkness’.
It is hard to say anything about darkness without uttering a word about light. Because, darkness is where the light is not. Good morning.
Petrarca mentions the Age of Darkness. Hunger, pillage, etc, all of these have been attributed to dakness. Not only in (Western) Europe, but in Ancient Greece, too, Darkness have passed. It is possible to ‘see’ the darkness under that ‘light’, a way of killing all that remind us of a time of abundant pain and suffering; remembering to forget. ı am not talking in vain, fainting at the very sight of an immutable being is a human, perhaps all too human, trait. Petrarca, of course, would gladly haunt us out of that thought.
The Dark Ages, owing to inherent shittiness of the human and the usual ‘cruelty’ of the nature, set aside, I believe the word Darkness has an infinitely more fascinating interpretation.
Dark Matter.
Even though it has not thus been verified through scientific experimentation, it is believed that majority of the universe consists of dark matter. It can be detected by its gravititational ‘influence’ on matter. Sort of like, I don’t believe in God, but there are some things begging to be explained. Darkness evokes curiosity, involves mystery.
And it signifies the unknown.
Of course, as usual, it’s much more than that. Instead of undermining your creative intuition, I’ll cut it short. Deadline is 5th of January. Happy New Years.
